Jean-Luc Colombo’s Condrieu Amour du Dieu 2023 is a standout white from one of the most celebrated terroirs for Viognier in the world. Sourced from the steep terraces of Condrieu in the northern Rhône, it combines richness, precision, and aromatic complexity in a style that has made the appellation legendary.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright golden hue with a luminous, polished appearance. The nose is intensely expressive, with ripe stone fruit, white flowers, citrus peel, and subtle hints of spice and oak adding depth and complexity. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and silky, yet lifted by Condrieu’s natural freshness. Expect layers of apricot, peach, pear, and honeysuckle, wrapped in a creamy texture and a long, refined finish. This is a wine with excellent short- to medium-term aging potential, gaining further nuance and roundness over a few years in bottle.

Production
The Viognier grapes come from the steep, granite-based terraces of the Condrieu appellation, where abundant sunshine and the cooling influence of the Mistral help preserve aromatic freshness. The vineyard’s slopes and surrounding woodland create a distinctive microclimate, and the fruit is harvested with care to protect quality on these demanding sites. The wine is then matured for 12 months in oak, which adds texture, spice, and structure without overwhelming the varietal character.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent partner for rich seafood, lobster, scallops, roast poultry, creamy sauces, or Asian dishes with a gentle spice. It also works beautifully with soft cheeses. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider a brief decant if young to allow its aromatics to open fully.
