Description

Jean Fournier Marsannay Rouge Les Longeroies 2022 captures the soul of this historic family estate, drawn from their most emblematic vineyard holding. Les Longeroies accounts for over a quarter of the domaine’s vines and is considered the origin and essence of Fournier’s style in Marsannay. Despite the diversity of micro-terroirs within this large climat, the wine shows a striking unity of character: pure, refined Pinot Noir with a strong sense of place.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Les Longeroies is a vibrant, translucent ruby with youthful purple highlights at the rim. The nose opens with precise red fruits—wild strawberry, raspberry and red cherry—layered with floral notes of rose petal and violet, plus subtle hints of orange zest, crushed stone, and gentle spice. On the palate, this is a focused, elegant expression of Pinot Noir, combining juiciness with finely etched structure. Fresh red berries and pomegranate lead, supported by a core of mineral tension and delicate, savory undertones—think dried herbs, tea leaf and a touch of forest floor. The tannins are fine-grained and silky, while the acidity is bright and refreshing, giving the wine a lifted, energetic finish that lingers with notes of chalk and spice. Enjoyable in its youth for its vibrant fruit, it also has the balance and structure to evolve gracefully over the next 6–10 years, gaining complexity and more earthy, tertiary nuances with time in bottle.

Production
Les Longeroies is one of Marsannay’s most renowned climats, on well-drained slopes with classic Burgundian limestone and clay soils that give the wine its finesse and mineral backbone. The vines here are a core part of the Fournier heritage, and great care is taken in the vineyard, with meticulous work throughout the growing season and hand-harvesting at optimal ripeness to preserve the integrity of the Pinot Noir berries. In the cellar, the grapes are typically sorted carefully, then vinified with a gentle extraction to favor aromatics and texture over power—often including a proportion of whole clusters to bring freshness and spice. Aging in French oak, with a judicious use of new barrels, allows the wine to gain depth and harmony while keeping the purity of fruit and terroir-driven character firmly in focus.

Food & Serving
This Marsannay Rouge is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with roast chicken, duck breast, pork tenderloin, veal, or herb-crusted lamb. It also complements earthy dishes like mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, charcuterie, and semi-soft cheeses such as Comté, Tomme or mild washed-rind cheeses. Serve at 14–16°C (57–60°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and fine texture. Young bottles can benefit from a brief 30–45 minutes in a carafe to open the bouquet, while more mature bottles should be handled gently and decanted only if necessary to separate sediment.

Producer
Domaine Jean Fournier is one of the benchmark producers of Marsannay, with deep roots in the appellation and a long family history dedicated to Pinot Noir in the northern Côte de Nuits. Over the years, the Fournier family has been instrumental in elevating the reputation of Marsannay from an insider’s secret to a serious source of Burgundy of character and finesse, particularly through their work in top sites like Les Longeroies. The estate is widely respected for its conscientious vineyard practices, sensitive winemaking, and consistent quality, and has been among the domaines helping to push for higher recognition of Marsannay’s finest climats. Today, Jean Fournier’s wines are sought after by Burgundy lovers looking for authentic, terroir-driven expressions that deliver both typicity and outstanding value.
