Javier Sanz Viticultor Semidulce 2023 is a gently sweet white wine from Rueda, made from the region’s signature Verdejo grape. Balancing natural fruit sweetness with refreshing acidity, it offers an approachable, softly textured style while reflecting Javier Sanz’s long-standing commitment to local varieties, historic vineyards and sustainable viticulture. The winery’s roots stretch back more than 150 years, with the fourth generation now continuing the family tradition.

Tasting Notes
Bright and inviting in appearance, this Verdejo shows expressive aromas of ripe melon and tropical pineapple, complemented by a fresh, clean character. On the palate, it is lightly sweet, smooth and pleasantly rounded, with lively acidity providing balance and keeping the wine refreshing rather than heavy. Its generous fruit profile makes it enjoyable in its youth; drink it fresh to appreciate its aromatic character.

Production
The vineyards are located around La Seca in Valladolid, within the Rueda region, where gravel and small stones contribute to the character of the wines. The continental climate brings significant day-to-night temperature variation and low humidity, helping preserve freshness and aromatic intensity. Javier Sanz cultivates a mosaic of individual plots and historic vineyard sites, using sustainable practices. For this Semidulce, fermentation is managed to retain a portion of the grapes’ natural sugars, resulting in its softly sweet style and balance between sweetness and acidity.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its gentle sweetness and fresh fruit character make it a versatile partner for spicy Asian dishes, lightly spiced poultry, pâté, soft cheeses and fruit-based desserts. It is also an easygoing aperitif. Decanting is not necessary; simply chill the bottle and serve fresh.

Javier Sanz Viticultor is based in La Seca, one of Rueda’s most important wine-growing areas, and manages 104 hectares divided among numerous plots, small vineyards and individual estates. The estate places particular emphasis on preserving pre-phylloxera vineyards, championing local grape varieties and reviving varieties that are close to disappearing. More than 150 years of winemaking heritage, combined with a focus on terroir, tradition and sustainable production, has made Javier Sanz an important ambassador for the identity and quality of Rueda.
