Description
Jaffelin Bourgogne Santenay Blanc 2022 is a refined white Burgundy from the southern reaches of the Côte de Beaune, where Chardonnay thrives on chalk-rich slopes. It combines freshness, minerality, and subtle oak complexity in a style that reflects both the character of Santenay and the long Burgundian tradition behind Maison Jaffelin.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a bright golden hue with clear, luminous highlights. The nose opens with white flowers, citrus, ripe pear, and delicate hints of toasted nuts and butter.
On the palate, it is fresh and lively, with a beautiful balance between ripe fruit, mineral tension, and an elegant layer of oak. The finish is long, clean, and harmonious, with classic Burgundian finesse. Thanks to the quality of the 2022 vintage, it also has the structure and depth to develop further in bottle over the next few years.
Production
The Chardonnay comes from the limestone slopes around Santenay in southern Côte de Beaune, a terroir well suited to producing wines with both precision and depth. The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed before fermentation in French oak barrels. The wine is then aged for 11 months in barrel, including around 40% new oak, which adds texture and complexity while preserving the wine’s natural freshness and mineral core.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast chicken, veal, creamy poultry dishes, shellfish, seared fish, and refined vegetarian dishes such as mushroom risotto or asparagus tart. Serve at around 10–12°C to let both the freshness and the oak integration shine. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open the wine if enjoyed young.
Producer
Maison Jaffelin is one of Burgundy’s oldest négociant houses, founded in Beaune in 1816 and based in the historic Caves du Chapitre beneath Notre-Dame de Beaune. Often described as “the smallest of the great Burgundy houses,” Jaffelin is known for small-batch production, careful parcel selection, and a strong focus on terroir expression. The estate was modernized in 2004 while preserving traditional methods, and today it benefits from the expertise of oenologist Marinette Garnier, whose background at leading Burgundy domaines has helped sharpen the house style toward precision and elegance.
