Description
Jaffelin Bourgogne Monthélie Rouge 2023 is a refined Pinot Noir that captures the finesse and freshness of one of Côte de Beaune’s more quietly admired appellations. Crafted by Maison Jaffelin, it combines classic Burgundy elegance with a precise, terroir-focused style, making it a charming expression of Monthélie’s character.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby-red color with clear reflections. The nose opens with cherry, raspberry, and ripe red berry aromas, lifted by subtle floral notes, gentle spice, and a hint of toast from the oak aging.
On the palate, the wine is silky and harmonious, with fine tannins, lively acidity, and a graceful finish that reflects Monthélie’s signature style. The 2023 vintage brings a lovely balance of ripe fruit and freshness, giving the wine immediate appeal while also allowing it to develop further complexity with a few years of cellaring.
Production
Sourced from Monthélie in the Côte de Beaune, the wine comes from a small appellation known for producing elegant, fresh, and terroir-driven Pinot Noir, positioned between Volnay and Meursault. Maison Jaffelin works with small parcels and limited cuvées, focusing on balance, purity, and expressive fruit rather than volume. Vinification follows a gentle, traditional approach, supported by the house’s modernized facilities and careful use of oak to preserve finesse.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast chicken, duck breast, mushroom risotto, veal, or lighter game dishes. Serve slightly cool at around 15–17°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a short airing can help the aromas open up if served young.
Producer
Maison Jaffelin is one of Burgundy’s oldest négociant houses, based in Beaune since 1816 and housed in the historic Caves du Chapitre beneath Notre-Dame de Beaune. Often described as “the smallest of the great Burgundy houses,” Jaffelin is known for its small-scale, elegant wines and careful attention to terroir. Under the guidance of oenologist Marinette Garnier, the estate has blended tradition with modern precision and earned a strong reputation for finesse-driven Burgundy.
