Description
Jaffelin Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay Les Chapitres 2024 is a refined Bourgogne white that captures the freshness and elegance Chardonnay is known for in Burgundy. Crafted by Maison Jaffelin, one of Beaune’s historic houses, it combines bright fruit, lively balance, and a subtle touch of oak for a classic yet approachable style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a beautiful golden-yellow colour with luminous reflections. The nose is clean and expressive, unfolding with notes of yellow fruit and citrus. On the palate, the attack is open and lively, with excellent harmony between acidity and fruit, giving the wine a fresh, supple, and well-balanced feel.
Its structure suggests good early drinking appeal, while the careful élevage adds enough depth to make it satisfying over the next few years. The wine’s freshness and poise are its main strengths, rather than long-term cellaring potential.
Production
The Chardonnay grapes are harvested by hand and pressed directly using a pneumatic press to preserve purity and finesse. The wine is then aged for 11 months in oak barrels, with no new oak used, followed by fining and filtration before bottling. This approach brings texture and gentle complexity while allowing the freshness of the fruit and the character of the Bourgogne terroir to remain at the forefront.
Food & Serving
This wine is ideal as an aperitif, especially with charcuterie, and it also pairs beautifully with seafood dishes such as shellfish platters, oysters, or simply prepared fish. Serve chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and decanting is not necessary.
Producer
Maison Jaffelin’s history is closely tied to the collegiate church of Notre-Dame de Beaune, whose cellars once housed the wines of the church and its princes. The Jaffelin brothers founded their négociant house in 1816, making it one of Beaune’s historic names. Today, Maison Jaffelin remains known as the smallest of the great Burgundy houses, with wines that continue to mature in the quiet, monastic atmosphere of the Chapter’s cellars.
