Description

Jacquesson’s Vauzelle Terme Extra Brut Récolte, Aÿ 2009 Magnum is a superb single-parcel Champagne from one of the region’s most respected names. Made without dosage and drawn from a south-facing hillside in Aÿ, it captures the ripe, crystalline character of the 2009 vintage with impressive precision and depth.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a generous, refined profile, with aromas of pear, gingerbread, dried white flowers, and subtle notes of dried fruit and nuts. On the palate it is medium- to full-bodied and beautifully elegant, with a broad, supple texture, ripe yet juicy acidity, and a long, graceful finish. The magnum format underlines its composure and gives it excellent freshness, while the fully mature 2009 vintage means it is in a very attractive drinking window now.

Production
Vauzelle Terme comes from a tiny 0.3-hectare parcel in Aÿ, planted with Pinot Noir vines from 1980 on a directly south-facing slope. The soil is clay-rich and highly chalky, resting on a chalk subsoil that helps to retain freshness while encouraging ripe, concentrated fruit. The 2009 growing season in Champagne was warm and dry, producing fully ripe grapes with higher alcohol and lower acidity, and the wine was disgorged without dosage in May 2019.

Food & Serving
This Champagne is a natural match for dishes with richness and texture, such as lobster, scallops, roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, or aged Comté and Parmesan. Serve it chilled at around 8–10°C; decanting is not necessary, but giving it a little time in the glass will allow the aromatics to open beautifully.

Producer
Champagne Jacquesson is one of Champagne’s most admired grower-producers, known for its precision, transparency, and site-driven wines. With a long history in the region and a strong reputation for quality, the house has earned particular acclaim for its singular vineyard cuvées and its thoughtful, low-intervention approach to winemaking.
