Description

J. M. Goulard Champagne La Sereine Meunier Pinot Noir Chardonnay Brut is a refined non-vintage cuvée that showcases the classic Champagne trio with a particular emphasis on Meunier. Crafted in the heart of France’s Champagne region, it balances elegance and freshness with real depth and character. This is a grower Champagne with personality, ideal for those who appreciate precision and terroir-driven wines over big-house uniformity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, La Sereine pours a bright, pale gold with a fine, persistent bead that speaks to careful lees aging. The nose opens with ripe orchard fruits—pear, apple, and white peach—layered with citrus zest, white flowers, and a hint of fresh brioche and hazelnut. On the palate, Meunier leads with generous, juicy fruit and a supple texture, while Pinot Noir adds structure and red-fruited nuance, and Chardonnay brings lift and minerality. Expect flavors of crisp green apple, lemon curd, and stone fruit, underpinned by subtle pastry notes and a chalky, saline finish. The mousse is creamy yet energetic, and the finish is long, clean, and mouthwatering. As a well-made non-vintage Brut, it is ready to drink now but will hold nicely for several years, gaining a touch more brioche and nuttiness with short-term cellaring.

Production
Sourced from carefully tended vineyards in the Champagne region of France, La Sereine reflects a cool continental climate and chalk-rich soils that give the wine its tension and mineral edge. The blend of Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay is harvested primarily by hand to ensure optimal fruit selection and gentle handling. Traditional Champagne vinification is employed: primary fermentation in temperature-controlled vessels, followed by tirage and extended aging on the lees in bottle to build complexity and texture. The wine is finished as Brut, with a balanced dosage that preserves its freshness and highlights the natural purity of the fruit.

Food & Serving
This Champagne is wonderfully versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with oysters, shellfish, sushi, and delicate white fish, but also works with poultry, light starters, charcuterie, and soft-ripened cheeses like Brie or Camembert. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to emphasize its vibrancy and aromatic detail. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or an open bottle is sufficient for the wine to unwind; decanting is not necessary, though pouring into proper tulip-shaped Champagne glasses will reveal its full range of aromas.

Producer
J. M. Goulard is a family-run grower estate in Champagne, dedicated to crafting characterful, terroir-expressive wines rather than mass-produced blends. Working primarily with their own vineyards, the Goulard family focuses on meticulous viticulture and thoughtful, small-lot production, giving each cuvée a distinct identity. Over the years, their Champagnes have earned a quiet but solid reputation among enthusiasts who seek out grower bottlings for their authenticity and sense of place. La Sereine exemplifies J. M. Goulard’s philosophy: precise, expressive Champagne that captures the nuances of its vineyards and the tradition of quality grower-producers in the region.
