Description
Inama Foscarino I Palchi Soave Classico 2022 is a refined expression of Garganega from one of Soave’s most prized hillsides. Sourced from old pergola-trained vines on the terraces of Monte Foscarino, it delivers a white wine of notable depth, tension, and elegance. This micro-cuvée, first separated out in 2019, showcases just how complex and ageworthy Soave Classico can be when terroir and careful vineyard work are given center stage.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, I Palchi 2022 shows a luminous straw-yellow color with subtle green reflections, signaling both ripeness and freshness. The nose is layered and inviting, opening with white flowers, acacia and chamomile, followed by ripe stone fruits, yellow plum, citrus peel, and hints of almond, wild herbs, and wet stone that speak clearly of volcanic soils.
On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet beautifully refined, with a silky texture balanced by a vibrant, saline backbone. Flavors of peach, pear, and mandarin are intertwined with notes of honeyed citrus, toasted almond, and a delicate spicy minerality that lingers on a long, precise finish. The structure and acidity suggest very good aging potential: while already expressive now, it will develop added complexity, hazelnut and honeyed nuances over the next 5–8 years, and potentially longer in optimal cellaring conditions.
Production
The fruit for I Palchi comes from broad terraced vineyards (“palchi”) on Monte Foscarino in the heart of the Soave Classico zone, a hillside of basaltic volcanic origin that lends the wine its tension, salinity, and mineral character. Old Garganega vines are traditionally pergola-trained, and yields are kept low through meticulous vineyard management to achieve optimal ripeness and concentration. Grapes are hand-harvested in multiple passes to select only the best bunches, then gently pressed. Fermentation typically takes place in a mix of stainless steel and large or neutral oak, followed by maturation on the fine lees, which adds texture, subtle complexity, and aromatic depth while preserving the clarity of the terroir.
Food & Serving
This Soave Classico is a superb match for refined seafood dishes such as scallop carpaccio, grilled prawns, or shellfish risotto, as well as delicate white fish, sushi and sashimi. It also pairs beautifully with poultry in light sauces, veal tonnato, vegetable-based pastas, and soft or semi-aged cheeses. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its aromatics and freshness. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up, especially in its youth, revealing additional floral and mineral nuances.
Producer
Inama is one of the benchmark estates of Soave Classico, a family-run winery that has been instrumental in redefining the reputation of Soave from simple everyday white to profound, terroir-driven wine. Founded in the 1960s by Giuseppe Inama, the estate focused early on acquiring parcels in the best volcanic hillsides of Monte Foscarino and surrounding crus. Today, under the guidance of the next generation, Inama is recognized for its meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and thoughtful winemaking that emphasizes texture, minerality, and ageworthiness. The creation of I Palchi as a distinct label from the 2019 vintage underscores Inama’s continuing commitment to expressing the finest individual sites within Soave’s historic heartland.
