Il Conte Villa Prandone’s Lu Kont 2020 is a richly structured red from the hills of Monteprandone in the Marche, made primarily from the region’s signature Montepulciano grape. Its deep colour, intense wild-berry character and polished oak maturation make it a compelling expression of the estate’s historic vineyards and Adriatic-influenced terroir.

Tasting Notes
The wine is a clear, intense ruby red with deep colour at the core. The nose is powerful and inviting, combining ripe wild berries with distinctive notes of liquorice and subtle spice from its time in oak. On the palate, Lu Kont is full-bodied and firmly structured, with concentrated fruit, well-defined tannins and a persistent, complex finish. Its balance and depth allow it to be enjoyed now, particularly after decanting, while careful cellaring should allow the wine to develop further over the next several years.

Production
The vineyards lie among the rolling hills near Monteprandone in Ascoli Piceno, where cooling breezes from the Adriatic Sea meet air currents from the Sibillini Mountains. This creates a healthy, balanced microclimate and encourages even ripening. The grapes are gently pressed, then macerated and fermented in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures, with manual pressing during the process. After fermentation, the wine matures for 12 months in oak barrels, followed by a further 12 months in concrete tanks and at least six months of bottle ageing.

Food & Serving
A natural match for hearty dishes such as grilled or roasted red meat, braised beef, game, sausages and rich pasta with meat-based sauces. It also pairs well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, allowing the bottle to come up gradually in temperature. Decant for approximately 30–60 minutes to soften the tannins and open up the wine’s fruit and liquorice aromas.
