Description
Hubert Lignier’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Chabiots 1er Cru 2014 is a beautifully poised Burgundy from a small 1.5-hectare site in one of the Côte de Nuits’ most admired communes. Made from Pinot Noir and shaped by a family estate with roots dating back to 1880, it combines Chambolle’s floral finesse with the more structured, serious style for which Lignier is known.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright, refined profile, with an aromatic bouquet of rose petal, fresh florals and crisp red fruit. As it opens in the glass, the nose gains depth and delicacy, keeping a graceful, lifted character throughout.
On the palate, the 2014 vintage is balanced and structured, with crisp acidity, firm tannins and a grip on the finish that gives it a more muscular, Morey-like impression. It is still somewhat firm and youthful, but the wine has the substance and balance to flesh out with time in bottle, offering strong aging potential.
Production
Les Chabiots is a small premier cru vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny, where limestone-rich Burgundy terroir helps preserve freshness and aromatic precision. Hubert Lignier farms with a traditional, fruit-focused approach and avoids pesticides and herbicides, allowing the vineyard character to come through clearly. The estate is known for producing wines with depth, structure and concentration, while retaining elegance and purity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs well with dishes that complement Pinot Noir’s finesse, such as roasted duck, pigeon, quail, veal, mushroom dishes or soft, earthy cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–45 minutes if opening it young to help the aromas and texture unwind.
Producer
Hubert Lignier is a fifth-generation family estate based in Morey-St-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Established in 1880 when Jacques Lignier acquired vines in Morey, the domaine has grown to around nine hectares and produces a range of wines from village to grand cru level. Today, Hubert and Laurent Lignier continue the family tradition, and the estate is highly regarded for traditional Burgundy wines with impressive aging potential, precision and regional character.
