Description

Hermitage Rouge Domaine des Tourettes 2023 is a serious Northern Rhône red that captures the power and elegance this legendary hillside appellation is known for. Sourced from Hermitage’s steep granite slopes, it offers a compelling balance of concentration, structure, and refinement, making it a standout for collectors and lovers of classic Syrah.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, expect a deep, opaque garnet-purple color. The nose typically opens with layers of blackberries, dark cherries, violet, pepper, smoked meat, and subtle mineral tones, all hallmarks of Hermitage Syrah. On the palate, it is usually full-bodied and firmly structured, with ripe dark fruit, savory spice, graphite, and a distinct stony backbone. The tannins are present but polished, suggesting excellent development ahead. While approachable with time in bottle, this is a wine that can reward cellaring for many years, gaining complexity and finesse.

Production
Hermitage is one of the Rhône Valley’s most prized terroirs, defined by steep, sun-drenched granite and alluvial slopes that produce wines of intensity and age-worthiness. The 2023 vintage would have benefited from careful harvesting to preserve balance and freshness, with vinification likely focused on extracting depth, color, and structure while maintaining the vineyard’s natural elegance.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for roast lamb, venison, beef tenderloin, game birds, and slow-braised meats, as well as richly flavored dishes with herbs and pepper. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the aromatics open and the tannins soften.
