Description
Henri Richard Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 is a refined expression of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most prized vineyards, made from 100% Pinot Noir. Combining the depth and structure of Grand Cru Burgundy with the producer’s precise, low-intervention approach, it captures both the power and elegance that define this famous site.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows a deep ruby colour with impressive clarity. The nose opens with ripe cherry, dark berries, violet, and a gentle earthy note of forest floor, while subtle spice and a mineral edge add complexity.
The palate is layered and harmonious, with silky yet firm tannins, fresh acidity, and a core of concentrated red and black fruit. Notes of spice, crushed stone, and savoury depth carry through to a long, refined finish. While already impressive, the wine has the structure and balance to evolve beautifully over many years in the cellar.
Production
The Mazoyères-Chambertin vineyard lies in the southern part of the appellation on classic Burgundy soils of limestone and clay, giving the wine both richness and mineral precision. Domaine Henri Richard farms biodynamically, working with old vines and harvesting by hand to select only the best fruit. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, and the wine is matured in French oak barrels, with only a modest proportion of new wood to preserve purity and terroir expression. Filtration is avoided to maintain texture and depth.
Food & Serving
This is a wine to enjoy with refined dishes such as roasted duck, game bird, beef fillet, or mushroom-based cuisine. It also pairs beautifully with truffle dishes and mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently for about 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.
