Description

Henri Giraud Champagne Hommage au Pinot Noir Brut is a refined tribute to the noble Pinot Noir grape, crafted in the heart of France’s legendary Champagne region. This non-vintage cuvée showcases the depth, structure and pure fruit expression that Champagne can deliver when Pinot Noir takes center stage. It’s a Champagne for those who appreciate both precision and personality in the glass.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Hommage au Pinot Noir pours a luminous, pale gold hue with fine, persistent bubbles forming an elegant mousse. The nose is generous and expressive, opening with ripe red apple, white peach and pear, layered with notes of wild strawberry, brioche, toasted hazelnut, and a gentle hint of spice. On the palate, this Brut is both vibrant and silky, with Pinot Noir’s signature vinosity shining through. Expect a core of juicy stone fruit and citrus (lemon zest, blood orange) wrapped in subtle red berry tones, underpinned by chalky minerality and a delicate creaminess from extended lees contact. The finish is long, dry and mouthwatering, with a precise balance between fruit richness and refreshing acidity. Enjoy it now for its energy and charm, or cellar it for 3–5 years to develop more complexity and autolytic, pastry-like nuances.

Production
Sourced from prime Pinot Noir vineyards in the Champagne region, including the historic slopes around Aÿ where Henri Giraud has its roots, this cuvée reflects a terroir of chalk and limestone-rich soils that lend finesse and tension. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to protect purity and aromatics, with careful sorting in the winery. Vinification is carried out with a Burgundian mindset, combining stainless steel for freshness and, where appropriate, oak for texture and complexity, often drawing on the house’s traditional use of Argonne oak. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and matures on its lees, gaining depth, creaminess and fine bubbles before disgorgement and a carefully judged Brut dosage.

Food & Serving
Henri Giraud Hommage au Pinot Noir Brut is a versatile Champagne that pairs beautifully with refined yet flavorful dishes. Try it with tuna tartare, salmon sashimi, charcuterie, roast poultry, veal with light cream sauces, or earthy mushroom risotto; it also shines alongside aged hard cheeses and delicate truffle preparations. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) in a tulip-shaped glass to highlight both aromatics and texture. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or a quick, gentle decant into a chilled carafe can help the wine open up and reveal its full Pinot Noir expression.

Producer
Henri Giraud is one of Champagne’s most historic and quietly revered houses, with family roots in Aÿ dating back to the 17th century. Known for its deep commitment to Pinot Noir and its intimate understanding of the Aÿ Grand Cru terroir, the estate has long championed a more vinous, gastronomic style of Champagne. The house is also notable for its thoughtful use of Argonne oak, a traditional material in the region, to bring subtle structure and complexity to its wines. Today, Henri Giraud is celebrated among enthusiasts and collectors for crafting characterful, terroir-driven Champagnes that stand out for their precision, richness and authenticity.

Henri Giraud is a historic family house based in Aÿ, one of Champagne’s great Pinot Noir villages. “Hommage au Pinot Noir” is their tribute to this grape, built to show power, structure and terroir rather than simple fruit. A blend focused on Pinot Noir, aged patiently on lees, it delivers a deeper, gastronomic style of Champagne perfect for lovers of character, texture and Pinot-driven elegance.
