Description
Henri Boillot’s Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère Monopole is a beautifully precise expression of one of Burgundy’s most prized terroirs. Made from Chardonnay in a single-owner Premier Cru vineyard, it combines elegance, minerality, and depth in a way that has made this cuvée a benchmark for collectors of fine white Burgundy.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright pale gold color with a silvery sheen, hinting at freshness and finesse. The nose is refined and layered, offering white flowers, citrus zest, ripe orchard fruit, and subtle notes of toasted almond, wet stone, and delicate oak.
On the palate, the wine is focused and harmonious, with a silky texture balanced by vibrant acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish. Puligny-Montrachet’s hallmark tension and precision are very much present here, and the wine has the structure to age gracefully over time, developing greater complexity with bottle maturity.
Production
Clos de la Mouchère is a monopole vineyard, meaning it is owned and farmed exclusively by Henri Boillot, in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet. The site’s limestone-rich soils and favorable exposure contribute to the wine’s signature purity, tension, and finesse. The grapes are carefully harvested and vinified with a restrained approach designed to preserve the character of the vineyard, typically with gentle pressing, controlled fermentation, and measured oak aging to add texture without overwhelming the fruit.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roasted lobster, seared scallops, turbot, poultry in cream sauce, or risotto with mushrooms and herbs. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider decanting briefly if the wine is very young to help it open up and show its full aromatic range.
Producer
Henri Boillot is a respected Burgundian producer known for crafting precise, terroir-driven wines from both Côte de Beaune and beyond. The domaine has built a strong reputation for its white wines, particularly its Puligny-Montrachet bottlings, which are admired for their purity, balance, and aging potential. Over time, the estate has become a reference point for contemporary white Burgundy of exceptional quality.
