Hauts de Pontet-Canet is the second wine of the renowned Pauillac estate Château Pontet-Canet, offering a more approachable expression of one of Bordeaux’s most respected names. From the celebrated 2006 vintage, it combines classic Left Bank structure with the pedigree and refinement associated with Pauillac.

Tasting Notes
The wine is typically deep ruby in color, showing mature garnet reflections as it develops. On the nose, expect blackcurrant, plum, cedar, tobacco, and subtle earthy spice, with a touch of graphite that is very characteristic of Pauillac. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with firm but polished tannins, fresh acidity, and layered flavors of dark berry fruit, cigar box, and savory oak-derived complexity. The 2006 vintage has enough structure to continue evolving, though it is also at a stage where its secondary aromas and softer texture can already be enjoyed.

Production
Produced in Pauillac on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Hauts de Pontet-Canet benefits from gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and encourage deep root growth. The estate’s vineyards are managed with a strong focus on quality, and the second wine is made from younger vines and selections not used in the grand vin. Vinification follows traditional Bordeaux methods, with careful parcel selection and maturation in oak to preserve the wine’s balance, depth, and regional character.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, and dishes with mushrooms or truffle. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for around 30–60 minutes if the bottle is opened while still youthful or to help the aromas fully unfold.
