Description
One of Bordeaux’s most revered first growths, Château Haut-Brion combines rarity, pedigree, and a distinctive Graves identity in a way few wines can match. From the heart of Pessac-Léognan, this is a benchmark wine known for its elegance, depth, and remarkable consistency across great vintages.
Tasting Notes
In youth, Haut-Brion 2022 typically shows a deep, luminous ruby-purple colour with impressive concentration. The bouquet is layered and refined, with blackcurrant, plum, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, and subtle smoky-savoury notes that are hallmarks of the estate.
On the palate, it is expected to be silky yet powerful, with finely etched tannins, dark berry fruit, mineral freshness, and a long, poised finish. The wine has the structure and balance to age beautifully for decades, developing greater complexity with time in bottle.
Production
Château Haut-Brion is located on exceptional gravelly soils in Pessac-Léognan, where the mix of deep gravel, sand, and clay provides excellent drainage and ideal conditions for ripe, balanced fruit. The estate is traditionally harvested with great precision, often parcel by parcel, to ensure each grape reaches optimum maturity before vinification. The wine is made with meticulous cellar work to preserve purity, structure, and the estate’s signature aromatic finesse.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with fine cuts of beef, roast lamb, duck, truffle dishes, or game, where the wine’s depth and savoury complexity can shine. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if drinking young to help the wine open gradually.
Producer
Château Haut-Brion is the oldest of Bordeaux’s first growth estates and one of the most historic names in fine wine. Based in the city of Bordeaux, it has long been regarded as a pioneer of quality winemaking and remains one of the defining estates of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Its reputation for producing wines of character, refinement, and longevity has made it a reference point for collectors worldwide.
