Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep garnet colour with evolving ruby highlights. The nose is refined and layered, with aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, and subtle floral and earthy notes that unfold with time in the glass. On the palate, Haut-Brion 2012 is poised and silky, with Cabernet Sauvignon bringing structure, Merlot adding roundness, and Cabernet Franc contributing aromatic lift. Expect a beautifully integrated profile of dark fruit, spice, truffle-like earth, and fine-grained tannins, finishing long and elegant. It has excellent aging potential and should continue to develop complexity over many years.

Production
Haut-Brion’s vineyards sit on the gravelly soils of Pessac-Léognan, where excellent drainage and the moderating influence of the nearby city of Bordeaux help the grapes achieve balance and precision. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc reflects both the estate’s classic style and the character of the vintage. Harvesting is carried out carefully to select fruit at optimal ripeness, followed by traditional vinification designed to preserve purity, texture, and aromatic complexity. Aging in oak barrels adds structure, polish, and subtle spice while allowing the wine’s layered character to evolve harmoniously.

Food & Serving
This is an exceptional match for classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison, duck breast, or dishes with mushroom and truffle accents. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the wine to fully open.
