Description
Haut-Brion 2011 is one of the great names of Bordeaux, carrying the unmistakable prestige of a First Growth from Pessac-Léognan. Known for its remarkable finesse, depth, and smoky complexity, this vintage reflects the historic elegance that has made Château Haut-Brion one of the most admired estates in the world.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Haut-Brion 2011 typically shows a deep garnet hue with mature ruby highlights. The nose is refined and layered, offering notes of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, and the château’s signature subtle smoky character, with time revealing hints of truffle, earth, and spice.
On the palate, it is beautifully composed rather than forceful, with polished tannins, bright freshness, and a long, nuanced finish. The wine’s balance and structure suggest excellent ageing potential, and while it can be enjoyed now with proper cellaring or decanting, it will continue to gain complexity over the years.
Production
Château Haut-Brion sits on exceptional gravelly soils in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, where the well-drained terroir helps produce wines of aromatic precision and elegant structure. The estate is known for careful vineyard management and selective harvesting, ensuring only the best fruit reaches the winery. Vinification is carried out with great attention to detail, followed by maturation in French oak barrels to preserve purity, texture, and complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as filet of beef, lamb rack, duck breast, truffle-based cuisine, or game birds. It also complements mushroom dishes and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if opening now to allow the wine to fully express its aromas and texture.
Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s most historic and iconic estates, and it was the first of the Médoc and Graves wines to be recognized as a First Growth in the 1855 Classification. Located just outside Bordeaux city, the estate has long been celebrated for its distinctive style and consistency across generations. Its reputation for excellence has made it a benchmark not only in Bordeaux, but in fine wine worldwide.
