Description
Haut-Brion 2010 is one of Bordeaux’s most revered red wines, combining extraordinary depth, finesse, and longevity in a style that has made the estate a benchmark for centuries. As a 1er Grand Cru Classé from Pessac-Léognan, it stands apart for its unmistakable smoky complexity, refined structure, and rare capacity to age beautifully.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet core with evolving brick-red hues at the rim, reflecting both concentration and maturity. The nose is layered and highly expressive, with notes of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, graphite, tobacco, truffle, and the estate’s signature subtle smoky earthiness.
On the palate, it is powerful yet impeccably composed, with ripe dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, seamless finish. The 2010 vintage offers remarkable structure and balance, and it has the depth to continue developing complexity for many more years, with a drinking window that can comfortably extend well into the future.
Production
Haut-Brion is located in Pessac-Léognan, on gravelly soils with excellent drainage that help the vines achieve ripeness while preserving freshness and aromatic precision. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc reflects the classic Left Bank approach, with harvest typically carried out parcel by parcel to capture each plot at optimal maturity. Vinification is carried out with meticulous attention to detail, allowing the wine to retain purity, structure, and the elegant signature for which the château is known.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as beef tenderloin, roast lamb, duck breast, venison, or truffle-based cuisine, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if enjoying now, especially if the bottle has been resting for several years, to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open.
Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s most historic and celebrated estates, with origins dating back to the 16th century and a reputation that helped define the region’s fine wine identity. As the only First Growth from Graves in the 1855 Classification, it holds a singular place in Bordeaux history and has long been admired for its consistency, elegance, and longevity. Its wines are among the most collectible in the world, with 2010 widely regarded as a standout vintage for the estate.
