Description
Château Haut-Brion 2009 is one of Bordeaux’s great names at the very top of its game, combining the refinement of a First Growth with the depth and generosity of an exceptional vintage. From the historic Pessac-Léognan terroir, it offers remarkable complexity, polish, and longevity—everything collectors look for in a wine of this stature.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in the glass, with a still-vibrant core and just a hint of maturity at the rim, this 2009 shows the richness expected from the vintage. The nose is layered and aristocratic, with aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, and subtle smoky earth, gradually unfolding in the glass.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet impeccably balanced, combining ripe cassis and dark cherry fruit with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and the savory, mineral signature that sets Haut-Brion apart. The finish is long, precise, and evolving, with the structure to continue aging gracefully for many years—likely still improving over time in a well-kept cellar.
Production
Haut-Brion is grown in the gravelly soils of Pessac-Léognan, where excellent drainage and a warm, deep terroir help the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot reach full ripeness while preserving freshness. Grapes are typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal maturity, allowing the estate to select fruit with great precision. Vinification is carried out with meticulous attention to detail, followed by aging in French oak barrels to shape the wine’s texture, structure, and aromatic complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with premium dishes such as roast beef, lamb, duck breast, game, truffle-infused dishes, and mushroom-based cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking now, especially to allow the wine’s aromatic layers and tannins to open fully.
Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s most legendary estates and was classified as a First Growth in the 1855 Classification, alongside the most celebrated names in the region. Located in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, it has long been admired for producing wines of exceptional finesse, depth, and aging potential. Haut-Brion is widely regarded as one of the benchmarks of Bordeaux, with a history and reputation that place it among the world’s most important wine estates.
