Description

Château Haut-Brion 2009 is one of the great names of Bordeaux, offering the pedigree of a First Growth from Pessac-Léognan and the depth of a superb vintage. Known for its remarkable balance, perfume, and complexity, it stands as a benchmark wine for collectors who value both power and finesse.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Haut-Brion 2009 typically shows a deep, concentrated ruby-garnet colour with impressive clarity. The bouquet is layered and elegant, with notes of blackcurrant, ripe plum, cedar, tobacco, graphite, and subtle smoky earth, evolving beautifully with time in the glass. On the palate, it is rich yet poised, with velvety tannins, excellent structure, and a long, refined finish. The 2009 vintage is generous and supple, but still carries the freshness and mineral line that give Haut-Brion its signature sophistication. It has outstanding ageing potential and should continue to develop complexity for decades.

Production
Haut-Brion comes from gravelly, well-drained soils in Pessac-Léognan, where the warmer terroir helps achieve exceptional ripeness while preserving freshness and definition. The grapes are typically harvested carefully by hand and sorted rigorously to ensure only the best fruit enters the final blend. Vinification is carried out with precision, followed by ageing in French oak barrels to build structure, texture, and aromatic depth.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic, flavourful dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, or truffled mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for several hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully and reveal its aromatic complexity.

Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s most historic and prestigious estates, and it holds the distinction of being the only Château outside the Médoc included in the original 1855 Classification as a First Growth. Based in Pessac-Léognan, it has long been admired for its distinctive style, combining elegance, smoky minerality, and age-worthy structure. Over the centuries, Haut-Brion has maintained an exceptional reputation as one of the world’s finest red wines.
