Description

Château Haut-Brion 2001 is a benchmark Bordeaux from one of the most historic estates in the world, combining remarkable finesse with the depth and authority expected of a First Growth. From the famed Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc shows the elegance, complexity, and longevity that have made Haut-Brion a legend since the 16th century.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Haut-Brion 2001 typically shows a deep garnet colour with brick-red nuances at the rim as it begins to evolve. The nose is layered and refined, offering blackcurrant, plum, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, truffle and subtle earthy spice, with the signature smoky-mineral character that often defines the estate. On the palate, it is structured yet silky, with finely integrated tannins, concentrated dark fruit, savoury complexity and a long, polished finish. This is a wine with excellent ageing potential and, in a strong vintage like 2001, can continue to develop additional tertiary notes of leather, forest floor and dried herbs over many years.

Production
Haut-Brion’s vineyards in Pessac-Léognan are rooted in deep gravel soils with patches of sand and clay, helping to produce wines of both power and precision. The grapes are typically harvested by hand, with careful selection in the vineyard and at the winery to preserve fruit quality. Vinification is traditionally meticulous, with parcel-by-parcel fermentation and ageing in French oak barrels to shape the wine’s texture, aromatic complexity and balance.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, venison and truffle-based preparations, as well as mushroom dishes and hard aged cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the bouquet to fully open and the palate to soften.

Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s most storied estates and was the only property outside the Médoc included in the 1855 Classification as a First Growth. Founded in the 16th century, it has long been admired for its distinctive style, combining aromatic complexity, mineral depth and remarkable longevity. Haut-Brion remains one of the most respected names in fine wine, celebrated worldwide for consistency, prestige and its place in Bordeaux history.
