Description
Hartford Dina’s Zinfandel 2018 is a rare, single-vineyard California Zinfandel made from vines planted more than a century ago, delivering the kind of depth and character that only old vines can produce. With extremely limited yields and a meticulous, hands-off winemaking approach, it stands out as one of Hartford’s most sought-after bottlings.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, saturated purple color that hints at its concentration. The nose is wonderfully expressive, unfolding with cherry, blueberry compote, blackberry, dried mulberries, and a lifted floral edge of violets, lavender, and roses.
The palate is rich and layered, echoing the dark fruit profile while adding cocoa, mocha, and toasted spice. It is powerful yet beautifully balanced, with the structure and concentration to age gracefully for several years, gaining further complexity over time.
Production
Made from grapes sourced from an old-vine single vineyard in California, this Zinfandel comes from vines planted over 100 years ago in a site that naturally produces tiny yields and highly concentrated fruit. The wine was aged for 13 months in oak barrels, with about half of them new, and was neither fined nor filtered to preserve purity and texture.
Food & Serving
This is a bold, food-friendly Zinfandel that pairs well with grilled ribeye, barbecued short ribs, spice-rubbed pork, lamb chops, or rich mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes to help the aromas open fully and soften the wine’s structure.
Producer
Hartford is a respected California producer known for crafting small-lot wines with a focus on expressive vineyard character, particularly from cooler-climate sites and old vines. The winery has built a strong reputation for producing some of the most compelling Russian River Valley wines, and its Zinfandels are especially prized for their depth, intensity, and sense of place.
