In the glass, the 2017 Harlan Estate shows a deep, opaque granat-lilac hue that hints at its concentration and youth. The nose opens gradually, at first reserved, then unfolding into captivating layers of warm blackcurrant, boysenberry, and black forest cake, interwoven with iron ore, rib jelly, crushed stone, and graphite, supported by nuances of clove and subtle baking spice. On the palate, this is medium to full-bodied with striking precision rather than sheer weight. Production
Harlan Estate is situated in the western hills of Oakville in Napa Valley, where steep, well-drained slopes, varied exposures, and a complex mix of volcanic and sedimentary soils create an exceptional terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon and its Bordeaux companions. The fruit is hand-harvested in small parcels at optimal ripeness, with meticulous selection both in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only the finest berries make it into the final blend. Fermentation is carried out with great precision, often in small tanks or oak fermenters, allowing micro-vinification by block and varietal, followed by an extended period of élevage in carefully selected French oak barrels. The result is a wine that reflects both the character of the vintage and the singular personality of the estate’s hillside vineyards.

Food & Serving
This powerful yet refined Napa red pairs beautifully with richly flavored dishes such as dry-aged ribeye, lamb loin with rosemary and thyme, slow-braised short ribs, or game birds with a dark jus. Mature hard cheeses—such as aged Comté or Pecorino—also work well with its structure and mineral drive. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to allow the aromatics to fully express themselves.
