Hacienda Monasterio Reserva 2019 is a distinguished Ribera del Duero red that showcases the estate at its most focused and expressive. Made only in select vintages, it draws from the winery’s oldest Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon vines, delivering depth, precision, and a striking sense of place. Its Reserva status reflects not only superior fruit but also a more patient élevage and cellar refinement.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a dark, intense color, yet it remains elegantly composed rather than overpowering. The nose opens with ripe red berry fruit, dark cherry, and subtle spice, layered with well-integrated oak, mineral nuance, and a refined savoury edge. The palate is juicy and concentrated, with mature red fruit taking the lead as the wine opens up. There is clear structure beneath the charm—fine tannins, fresh balance, and a polished texture—while the oak is already beautifully absorbed. It drinks well now, but it has the backbone and complexity to develop further over the next decade.

Production
Produced from around 8 hectares of the estate’s oldest vines, planted on an east-facing slope with deep roots in the subsoil, the wine benefits from a terroir that is said to lend a distinct mineral character. The blend is based on Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Petit Verdot excluded in this Reserva to emphasize the best fruit from these select parcels. Grapes are rigorously sorted, with whole clusters partly included in fermentation, and fermentation takes place in small stainless-steel tanks using only native yeasts. After 3–5 weeks of post-fermentation rest, the wine ages for 19–20 months in French Allier oak, with about 30% new barrels, and is bottled without fining or filtration.

Food & Serving
This is a superb partner for roast lamb, grilled beef, venison, game birds, and rich stews, as well as aged Manchego or other hard Spanish cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young, as this will help раскры the wine’s aromatic layers and soften its structure.
