Description
Hacienda Monasterio 2022 is a beautifully composed expression of Ribera del Duero, bringing together depth, freshness, and precision in one polished red. Crafted from Tempranillo-grown parcels between Pesquera and Valbuena de Duero, it reflects both the power of the region and the refined touch of Peter Sisseck and Carlos de la Fuente.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, concentrated colour that hints at the wine’s ripe fruit and structure. The nose opens with black cherry, dark forest berries, and subtle notes of herbs and cedar, adding layers of complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
On the palate, the wine is intense yet lifted, with silky tannins, cool dark fruit, and a distinct chalky mineral edge that brings tension and definition. The oak influence is discreet, adding gentle spice rather than dominance. While delicious now for its balance and clarity, it also has the structure to age gracefully over the coming years.
Production
The grapes come from cultivated parcels in the stretch between Pesquera and Valbuena de Duero, where Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grows in limestone-rich soils alongside small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec. The terroir contributes to the wine’s mineral backbone and elegant structure. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in temperature-controlled tanks, followed by up to 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels, with only a small proportion of new wood.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, grilled beef, game, or braised meats, as well as mushroom-rich dishes and aged Manchego. Serve at around 16–18°C to allow the aromatics and structure to unfold fully. Decanting for an hour or two is recommended if drinking young, as it will help open the wine and soften the tannins.
Producer
Hacienda Monasterio is one of Ribera del Duero’s most respected names, known for producing wines that combine concentration with finesse. The estate has become especially significant through its collaboration with renowned winemaker Peter Sisseck and winemaker Carlos de la Fuente, whose shared focus on balance and terroir has helped define the property’s modern reputation. The winery’s style has earned it recognition for crafting wines of both character and elegance.
