Description

Guy Charlemagne Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Mesnillesime Vieilles Vignes 2014 is a Chardonnay-driven Champagne crafted from old vines in the prized Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. This is a grower Champagne that focuses on depth, mineral precision and age-worthy structure rather than flashy sweetness. The 2014 Mesnillesime showcases the purity of Côte des Blancs Chardonnay in a single-vintage expression that reflects both the character of the year and the pedigree of these old vines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne typically shows a luminous pale gold color with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate mousse. On the nose, expect lifted aromas of citrus zest, green apple and pear layered with notes of white flowers, chalk, fresh brioche and a touch of hazelnut and cream as it opens in the glass. The palate is focused and precise, with a vibrant, chalky acidity that is very characteristic of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, wrapped around flavors of lemon curd, green plum, crisp orchard fruit and lightly toasted pastry. There is both tension and creaminess, with old-vine concentration giving impressive mid-palate weight and a long, saline, mineral finish. While already approachable, this 2014 Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs has the structure and acidity to continue developing additional complexity over the next several years, gaining more toast, nut and honeyed notes with careful cellaring.

Production
Sourced from old Chardonnay vines (“Vieilles Vignes”) in the renowned Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs, this Champagne draws its character from chalk-rich soils that deliver tension, finesse and a distinct mineral line. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection and preserve the integrity of the fruit. In the cellar, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vessels, followed by extended aging on the lees in bottle to build texture, complexity and fine mousse before disgorgement. The result is a terroir-driven, single-vintage Blanc de Blancs that captures the elegance and precision of its origin.

Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with refined, delicately flavored dishes: think oysters, scallops, sashimi, caviar, lobster, or simply prepared white fish, as well as goat cheese or young, creamy cheeses. It also works superbly as an aperitif when you want something precise and mineral rather than rich and sweet. Serve well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C (46–50°F), in a white wine glass or large tulip to allow the aromas to unfold. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass is usually enough for it to open; extended decanting is generally not necessary, though opening the bottle a little ahead of serving can help reveal more of its complexity.
