Description

Gulfi Rossojbleo Nero d'Avola Bio 2023 is a vibrant, organically farmed red that shows a fresher, more agile side of Sicily’s flagship grape. Sourced from relatively young Nero d’Avola vines on the cooler slopes of Monte Iblea in Ragusa, it trades heaviness for lift, energy and pure fruit. This is a Nero d’Avola for those who love Sicilian character but want brightness and drinkability in the glass.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Rossojbleo typically shows a bright, translucent ruby red with youthful violet highlights, reflecting its lively, modern style. The nose is generous yet refined, recalling raspberry, sour cherry and red plum layered with hibiscus tea, hints of mint and basil, and a touch of grated dark chocolate and roasted almond. A subtle herbal and floral edge keeps the wine feeling fresh rather than jammy. On the palate, this is supple at first sip, then reveals a surprisingly vivid streak of acidity for a sun‑kissed Sicilian red. Expect flavours of sour cherry, just‑ripe berries and macerated plums, wrapped in fine, silky tannins that feel more like a light silk scarf than a heavy cloak. The finish is mouth‑watering and persistent, with fresh red fruit and a faint echo of cocoa and green spice. Rossojbleo is made to be enjoyed in its youth over the first 3–5 years after harvest, when its juiciness, tension and aromatic lift are at their best.

Production
The fruit for Gulfi Rossojbleo grows on the slopes of Monte Iblea in the Ragusa province of southeastern Sicily, a cooler subzone where breezes and the absence of direct, scorching sun slow ripening and preserve acidity. The Nero d’Avola vines here are relatively young and farmed organically, in keeping with Gulfi’s commitment to low‑impact viticulture and careful respect for the local terroir. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, typically by hand to allow for careful selection in the vineyard, then gently crushed and fermented in temperature‑controlled conditions to capture aromatic purity and bright fruit. Vinification emphasizes stainless steel and a light touch of extraction, with maturation designed to keep oak influence in the background so that the natural freshness, red‑fruit profile and elegant structure of Nero d’Avola can shine.

Food & Serving
Rossojbleo’s juicy acidity and medium body make it a versatile partner at the table. It works beautifully with tomato‑based pasta dishes, wood‑fired pizza, grilled sausages, roasted chicken with Mediterranean herbs, and classic Sicilian fare such as caponata or pasta alla Norma. It also pairs well with hard cheeses and charcuterie, especially those with a touch of spice or smokiness. Serve at 15–17°C (59–63°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatics; a light chill in warmer weather can be very appealing. Decanting is optional but a brief 20–30 minutes in a carafe can help the youthful fruit and subtle herbal notes open up.
