Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 1995 shows impressive aromatic depth, with layers of dark cherry, blackberry, violet, black pepper, and smoky bacon, lifted by notes of licorice, olives, and exotic spice. The oak aging contributes subtle cedar, vanilla, and toasted nuances, adding detail without obscuring the vineyard character. On the palate, it combines the power and structure of Côte Brune with the finesse and perfume of Côte Blonde. Concentrated yet silky, it has refined tannins, a pronounced mineral backbone, and a long, layered finish marked by dark fruit, spice, and crushed slate. With its balance and depth, it has excellent aging potential and continues to develop beautifully in bottle.

Production
Château d’Ampuis is sourced from a selection of top parcels across Côte-Rôtie, spanning both the steep, schist-rich slopes of Côte Brune and the more graceful, aromatic soils of Côte Blonde. These sites give the wine its distinctive balance of muscle and elegance, while the terroir’s rocky composition contributes to its signature minerality and tension. Careful harvesting and meticulous vinification are used to preserve the purity of the fruit and the complexity of the site, followed by extended oak aging that adds structure and subtle spice.

Food & Serving
This is a superb partner for roasted game, lamb, duck breast, braised short ribs, or dishes with wild mushrooms and black pepper sauce. It should be served at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended, especially for older bottles, to help the wine open up and reveal its full aromatic complexity.
