Description
Gruaud Larose 2010 is a classic Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most respected classified growths, offering the depth and structure collectors look for in a serious Left Bank red. From a standout vintage and a historic estate with a long reputation for finesse and longevity, it combines power with polish in a distinctly traditional style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby core with garnet at the rim, hinting at its maturity while retaining impressive concentration. The nose is layered and refined, with blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, tobacco, graphite, and subtle earthy notes, gradually opening to show hints of spice, leather, and dried herbs.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-structured, with firm but integrated tannins supporting a core of dark fruit, savory complexity, and classic Saint-Julien freshness. The finish is long and persistent, with enough balance and backbone to suggest further positive development in bottle for many years, especially in well-stored conditions.
Production
Produced in the gravelly soils of Saint-Julien, the wine reflects a terroir that naturally favors Cabernet Sauvignon-driven blends with precision, depth, and ageworthiness. Grapes are typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, with careful sorting and traditional Bordeaux vinification aimed at preserving structure, aromatics, and purity of fruit.
Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game, and mushroom-based dishes, as well as hard aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially if the bottle is still youthful, to allow the wine’s aromatic complexity and tannins to fully open.
Producer
Château Gruaud Larose is a historic Second Growth estate in Saint-Julien, classified in 1855 and long admired for producing wines of classic claret character and excellent aging potential. Often called one of the most consistent names in the appellation, it has built its reputation on elegance, structure, and a strong sense of place, with numerous acclaimed vintages over the decades.
