Description

The Gröhl Pinot Noir Oppenheimer Herrenberg 2009 is a refined German Pinot Noir from the respected Gröhl estate in Rheinhessen, presented here in an impressive 1.5L magnum format. Sourced from the Oppenheimer Herrenberg site, it brings together elegance, depth, and the classic character that has made Pinot Noir one of the world’s most admired red varieties.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red color with inviting intensity. The nose opens with ripe red berries, subtle spice, and a delicate touch of vanilla, rounded out by gentle oak influence. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied yet graceful, with fine balance between fruit and acidity. Notes of dark cherry, warming spice, toasted oak, and a hint of chocolate carry through to a long, harmonious finish. With its structure and maturity, it has excellent aging potential and should continue to develop complexity over time.

Production
The Oppenheimer Herrenberg vineyard in Rheinhessen offers a terroir well suited to Pinot Noir, with conditions that help preserve freshness while allowing for ripe fruit expression. The 2009 vintage was carefully crafted from Pinot Noir grapes, with vinification focused on preserving varietal finesse and building texture through controlled oak maturation.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is an excellent match for roast beef, venison, duck, grilled lamb, and mature cheeses. Serve it slightly below room temperature, ideally around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30 minutes to allow the aromas and structure to open fully, especially given the wine’s age and magnum format.

Producer
Eckehard Gröhl is associated with one of Rheinhessen’s respected family wine estates, known for producing wines that combine regional authenticity with a polished, modern style. The Gröhl name has built a strong reputation for quality-driven viticulture and thoughtful cellar work, with wines that express both site character and craftsmanship.
