Description

Grawu Pinot Noir 2021 is an alpine expression of Pinot Nero from the dramatic landscapes of Trentino Alto Adige in Northern Italy. It’s a wine built on elegance, individuality and quiet depth, made for moments of reflection as much as for long dinners with good company. Versatile at the table and expressive in the glass, it offers a distinctive interpretation of one of the world’s noblest grape varieties, filtered through Grawu’s mountain-influenced style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Grawu Pinot Noir 2021 typically shows a luminous, translucent ruby hue with garnet highlights toward the rim, reflecting its finesse-driven style. The nose tends to be finely etched and precise, with notes of red cherry, wild berries and pomegranate, lifted by hints of rose petals, alpine herbs and a gentle, savory undertone. As it opens, subtle earthy nuances and a touch of spice may emerge, adding complexity without overpowering the fruit. On the palate, this Pinot Noir leans toward purity and tension rather than sheer power, with bright, refreshing acidity and finely textured tannins that create a graceful, almost weightless feel. Expect flavors of crunchy red fruits, cranberry and raspberry, along with delicate herbal and mineral notes that echo its cool-climate origins. The finish is long, linear and clean, with a lingering sense of freshness and subtle salinity. Enjoyable now for its vibrancy and lift, it should continue to evolve nicely over the next few years, gaining a bit more nuance and harmony with short- to mid-term cellaring.

Production
Grawu Pinot Noir 2021 comes from vineyards in Trentino Alto Adige, a region defined by steep slopes, cool alpine breezes and significant diurnal temperature swings that help Pinot Nero retain its aromatic precision and natural acidity. The soils here are typically a mix of limestone, gravel and alluvial deposits, contributing both tension and a distinct mineral footprint to the wine. Grapes are usually harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches and to preserve the delicate skins of Pinot Nero. In keeping with a more artisanal approach, vinification tends to emphasize gentle extraction and minimal intervention, often using spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and a restrained use of oak (if any) to highlight purity of fruit, terroir expression and textural finesse rather than heavy structure.

Food & Serving
Grawu Pinot Noir 2021 is highly versatile at the table, pairing effortlessly with a wide range of dishes. It is a natural match for roasted poultry, duck breast, veal, pork tenderloin and lighter lamb preparations, as well as mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, grilled salmon, tuna and refined vegetarian dishes based on root vegetables or lentils. Semi-aged alpine cheeses and charcuterie also work beautifully with its freshness and subtle spice. Serve slightly chilled, around 14–16°C (57–61°F), to highlight its aromatics and brightness. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up and reveal its more delicate floral and herbal nuances, especially in its youth.
