Deep ruby in the glass, the 2017 Grand Puy Lacoste opens with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, and subtle tobacco, layered with hints of violet and spice. On the palate it is elegant yet firmly structured, with ripe cassis, blackberry, and savory oak notes supported by fresh acidity and a polished tannic frame. The wine shows the classic Pauillac balance of power and restraint, finishing long and mineral with excellent definition. While approachable with careful decanting in youth, it has the concentration and backbone to age gracefully for many years, developing more complex tertiary notes of leather, cigar box, and earthy nuance.

Grand Puy Lacoste is situated on the famous gravel soils of Pauillac, where excellent drainage and the tempering influence of the nearby Gironde help Cabernet Sauvignon ripen with precision. The 2017 vintage was crafted from the estate’s traditional blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with harvesting carried out parcel by parcel to capture optimal ripeness. Vinification follows a classic Bordeaux approach aimed at preserving freshness, purity of fruit, and the firm structure that defines the property.
