Description
Grand Puy Lacoste 2012 is a classic Pauillac from one of the Médoc’s most respected estates, offering the structure, depth, and refinement collectors expect from a Fifth Growth. Built around Cabernet Sauvignon in a traditional Bordeaux style, it captures the power and precision that have made Pauillac one of the world’s most sought-after appellations.
Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a deep ruby color with plenty of brightness at the rim. On the nose, expect layered aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, dark cherry, and subtle tobacco, with a touch of violet and earthy spice developing as it opens.
On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied with firm but polished tannins, fresh acidity, and a core of cassis, plum, and mineral notes. The finish is long and savory, with classic Pauillac structure that should continue to reward cellaring for several years, gaining further complexity with age.
Production
Grand Puy Lacoste comes from gravelly soils typical of Pauillac, which provide excellent drainage and help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve ripeness while retaining freshness. The 2012 vintage was harvested parcel by parcel, with careful selection in both the vineyard and cellar, followed by traditional vinification and maturation in French oak barrels to build texture, definition, and age-worthy balance.
Food & Serving
Serve this wine with lamb, beef tenderloin, roast duck, or game dishes, as well as hard cheeses and mushroom-based recipes. Ideal serving temperature is 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially if drinking young, to allow the wine’s aromatic complexity and tannins to open fully.
Producer
Château Grand Puy Lacoste is one of Pauillac’s historic estates and was classified as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The château has a strong reputation for producing reliable, classically styled wines that reflect the character of the appellation, and it is widely respected for its consistency and longevity in the bottle.
