Description
Graham Beck Brut is one of South Africa’s most celebrated traditional-method sparkling wines, offering Champagne-like finesse at a remarkably approachable price. Crafted from classic Champagne grapes, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this non-vintage Cap Classique has become a benchmark for quality bubbles from the Robertson region. Its fine mousse, clean fruit profile and impeccable balance make it as suitable for everyday celebrations as for special occasions.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Graham Beck Brut shows a bright, pale straw color with a delicate, persistent stream of fine bubbles. The nose is inviting and vibrant, with aromas of green apple, lemon zest and white peach layered over subtle notes of brioche, toasted nuts and a hint of chalky minerality.
On the palate, it is crisp, dry and beautifully balanced, with lively acidity and a silky mousse. Flavors of citrus, crunchy orchard fruit and a touch of pear are supported by gentle autolytic notes of biscuit and freshly baked bread, giving depth and complexity. The finish is clean, refreshing and mouthwatering, making it an ideal aperitif. Enjoy now for its vibrant freshness, or cellar for 2–4 years if you prefer a slightly rounder, more toasty profile.
Production
Sourced from selected vineyard sites in the Robertson appellation of South Africa, Graham Beck Brut benefits from cool night-time temperatures, limestone-rich soils and abundant sunshine—conditions that help retain acidity while achieving full flavor ripeness. The grapes are hand-harvested in the early hours to preserve freshness and are gently pressed, with only the finest cuvée used. Primary fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a careful assemblage of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from different parcels and reserve wines to maintain a consistent house style. The wine then undergoes a traditional second fermentation in bottle, with extended lees aging to build texture, complexity and those signature brioche notes, before disgorgement and dosage.
Food & Serving
Graham Beck Brut is wonderfully versatile at the table, pairing beautifully with fresh oysters, prawns, sushi, ceviche and other delicate seafood dishes. It also complements soft goat cheese, fried snacks (think tempura or calamari), light poultry dishes and even salty potato chips or popcorn for a fun, casual match. Serve well chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F). A brief 10–15 minutes in an ice bucket before opening is ideal; decanting is not necessary, but pouring into proper flutes or white wine glasses will showcase its aromatics and fine mousse best.
