Description

Glenfiddich IPA Experimental Series is one of the distillery’s most talked-about modern releases, created for whisky drinkers who enjoy a fresh twist on Speyside tradition. Matured in casks that previously held IPA beer, it brings a lively hop-influenced character to Glenfiddich’s signature fruity style, making it a distinctive and innovative expression from one of Scotland’s most iconic distilleries.

Tasting Notes
Bright and golden in the glass, with a fresh, vibrant appearance that hints at its experimental cask finish. The nose typically opens with orchard fruit, citrus peel, and a gentle malty sweetness, lifted by subtle herbal and hoppy notes from the IPA cask influence. On the palate, it is crisp and zesty, with layers of green apple, pear, lemon, and biscuit malt, followed by a soft hop bitterness and a clean, dry finish. The overall style is approachable yet intriguing, with enough structure to reward slow sipping. While it is best enjoyed for its youthful energy, it can develop added nuance over time once opened, though it is not designed for long-term cellaring.

Production
Produced in Speyside, Scotland, Glenfiddich IPA Experimental Series is crafted at the family-owned Glenfiddich distillery, where innovation has long been part of the house style. The whisky is initially matured in traditional oak casks before being finished in barrels that previously held craft IPA, allowing the spirit to absorb subtle hop-driven aromatics and a fresh, aromatic edge while retaining Glenfiddich’s classic Speyside fruit character.

Food & Serving
Best served neat or with a small splash of water to open the citrus and malt notes, ideally at room temperature. It pairs well with smoked salmon, grilled chicken, soft cheeses, and lightly spiced dishes, and can also work nicely alongside bitter chocolate or nutty desserts. Decanting is not necessary, though letting it rest in the glass for a few minutes will help reveal its aromatic layers.

Producer
Glenfiddich is one of Scotland’s most renowned single malt producers and a defining name in Speyside whisky. Founded in 1887 by William Grant, the distillery has built a global reputation for quality, consistency, and innovation, while remaining deeply rooted in traditional craftsmanship. The Experimental Series reflects Glenfiddich’s forward-thinking approach and its willingness to explore new cask styles without losing sight of its heritage.
