Description
Château Giscours 2018 is a classic Margaux from one of the Left Bank’s most respected estates, offering the finesse and structure that collectors look for in a Third Growth Bordeaux. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it combines aromatic elegance with depth and age-worthy balance, reflecting both the château’s long history and the strength of the 2018 vintage.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby-purple core with youthful brightness at the rim. The nose is expressive and refined, with notes of blackcurrant, plum, violet, cedar, tobacco, and a subtle hint of graphite and spice.
On the palate, Giscours 2018 is layered and poised, with ripe dark fruit framed by polished tannins and fresh Bordeaux acidity. The Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and drive, while Merlot adds roundness and generosity, leading to a long, elegant finish. This is a wine with excellent aging potential and should develop beautifully over the next 10 to 20 years, gaining complexity and secondary notes of leather, earth, and dried herbs.
Production
The estate sits in the Margaux appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where gravel-rich soils provide excellent drainage and encourage Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen fully while retaining freshness. Harvesting is typically carried out parcel by parcel to preserve fruit quality, with careful selection both in the vineyard and at the cellar to ensure only the best grapes are used. Vinification follows a traditional Bordeaux approach, with temperature-controlled fermentation and aging in French oak barrels to build structure, polish tannins, and add complexity.
Food & Serving
Serve this wine with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, venison, or mushroom-based dishes. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. For best enjoyment, serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours when young to allow the aromas and structure to खुलly open up.
Producer
Château Giscours is one of the landmark estates of Margaux, with origins dating back several centuries and a reputation built on producing refined, terroir-driven Bordeaux. Classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it has long been recognized for its consistency, elegance, and capability for long aging. Today, Giscours remains an important name in the region, admired for wines that capture the finesse and charm of Margaux while maintaining real depth and class.
