Description
Giovinco ALMA Catarratto Terra Siciliane IGT 2025 is a bright, characterful white from western Sicily, showcasing one of the island’s most historic native grape varieties. Sourced from hillside vineyards around Sambuca di Sicilia, it combines ripe Mediterranean fruit with the freshness, finesse and aromatic lift that have made Catarratto such an important part of Sicilian wine heritage.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a straw-yellow colour with green reflections, signalling its youthful energy and freshness. The nose is floral and fruit-driven, with notes of citrus, white blossoms, green apple and white peach, rounded out by subtle herbal nuances.
On the palate, it is crisp, juicy and elegant, with a clean structure, lively acidity and a mineral finish that gives the wine a distinctly Sicilian edge. The 2025 vintage is especially vibrant and aromatic, making this a white wine best enjoyed for its freshness, though it should hold well over the next 1–2 years while developing a touch more texture.
Production
The grapes come from vineyards around Sambuca di Sicilia at around 350 metres above sea level, where warm sunny days and cool nights help preserve freshness while building flavour and aromatic intensity. Harvest is done by hand in the coolest morning hours, followed by immediate chilling to protect the fruit and acidity.
After cold settling for several days, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 12–14°C over 10–15 days. The wine then rests on fine lees for 2–3 months and matures further in steel, adding subtle body and complexity while keeping the wine’s pure, Mediterranean character intact.
Food & Serving
This Catarratto pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish, grilled fish, light pasta dishes, risotto with vegetables, and fresh cheeses. It also works well with Sicilian-inspired dishes such as caponata or citrus-dressed salads. Serve chilled at 8–10°C, and decanting is not necessary.
