Giacomo Conterno Arione Barolo 2021 MG

Giacomo Conterno’s Barolo Arione 2021 is a distinguished single-vineyard Nebbiolo from Serralunga d’Alba, presented here in magnum format for especially graceful development. It combines the classical structure of Barolo with remarkable finesse, aromatic detail and balance—hallmarks of one of Piedmont’s most respected traditional producers.

Tasting Notes
Brilliant garnet-red in colour, the wine opens with an immediately captivating bouquet of sage, rose petals, mint, orange peel and dried flowers. With time in the glass, its aromatic profile becomes increasingly expressive, revealing layers of spice and delicate floral complexity. On the palate, Arione is refined and beautifully poised, with almost seamless tannins, vibrant freshness and exceptional balance. The finish is long and distinctive, marked by pronounced floral and spicy nuances. Although already compelling, the 2021 vintage has the structure and concentration to develop further over the next two to three decades, particularly in magnum.

Production
Arione is a renowned cru in Serralunga d’Alba, an area known for its calcareous soils and structured, long-lived Barolo. Made from Nebbiolo, the wine reflects Giacomo Conterno’s traditional approach, with careful fruit selection and a slow, considered vinification designed to preserve the vineyard’s detail and natural elegance. Maturation in large oak vessels allows the wine to develop complexity while keeping the fruit, freshness and terroir at the forefront.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 18°C after allowing the wine to acclimatise gradually. Decanting is recommended—around two to three hours for immediate enjoyment—although the magnum will reward patience and can be opened well in advance. Its structure and aromatic complexity make it an excellent match for braised beef, game, truffle dishes, porcini mushrooms, aged hard cheeses and classic Piedmontese specialities such as brasato al Barolo.
