Giacomo Conterno’s Barolo Arione 2021 is a refined expression of one of Serralunga d’Alba’s most distinguished crus. Combining the estate’s hallmark traditional style with the exceptional finesse of the vintage, it offers remarkable elegance, depth and long-term ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour with garnet nuances that will become more pronounced with age. Its captivating bouquet gradually reveals layers of sage, rose petals, mint, orange peel and dried flowers, complemented by subtle spice and classic Nebbiolo perfume. On the palate, Arione 2021 is poised and beautifully balanced, with refined, almost seamless tannins and a graceful, vibrant structure. Floral and spicy nuances carry through to a long, distinguished finish. Although already compelling, its complexity and firm framework suggest considerable ageing potential—likely developing beautifully over the next 15–25 years in a suitable cellar.

Production
Produced from Nebbiolo grown in the Arione cru in Serralunga d’Alba, an area known for powerful, structured Barolos shaped by calcareous, marl-rich soils. The grapes are traditionally harvested by hand and vinified with a focus on expressing the site and vintage, including extended maceration and maturation in large, neutral Slavonian oak casks. This traditional approach allows the wine’s natural perfume, structure and mineral character to emerge without excessive oak influence.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for Piedmontese cuisine and rich, savoury dishes, this Barolo works particularly well with braised beef, game, truffle dishes, porcini mushrooms, osso buco and aged hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 18°C. While it can be enjoyed after a careful opening, decanting for two to three hours is recommended when drinking it young to soften the tannins and reveal its aromatic layers.
