Description

Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Veroilles 2013 is a beautifully poised Pinot Noir that captures the elegance and precision of one of Burgundy’s most admired villages. From a cool, late-ripening vintage, it combines aromatic lift, fine structure, and the quiet depth that has made Barthod’s wines so sought after among Burgundy lovers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby hue with impressive clarity. The nose is finely tuned and expressive, offering red cherry, red currant, violet, spice, and a delicate forest-floor character that adds depth without ever overwhelming the fruit. The palate is all about finesse: vibrant acidity, silky tannins, and a refined, linear shape that gives the wine length and energy. The fruit is pure and focused, supported by a subtle earthy complexity, and the overall balance suggests both immediate appeal and strong cellaring potential over the coming years.

Production
Les Veroilles sits in Chambolle-Musigny, where the soils and cool continental climate naturally favour elegance, perfume, and finely textured Pinot Noir. In the 2013 growing season, a cool, delayed ripening cycle led to a later harvest and grapes with excellent freshness and aromatic precision. The wine was vinified in the traditional Burgundy manner to preserve purity of fruit, finesse, and the site’s distinctive character.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for dishes that reflect Pinot Noir’s delicacy, such as roast quail, duck breast, guinea fowl, mushroom risotto, or veal with light cream sauces. Serve it at around 15–16°C, and consider decanting for about 30 minutes if opened young to allow the aromas to fully unfold.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of Chambolle-Musigny’s reference domaines, known for producing wines of exceptional detail, purity, and vineyard expression. The estate has earned a strong reputation for its meticulous work in the vineyard and cellar, and its Premier Cru wines are particularly admired for their balance of perfume, structure, and longevity.
