Description

Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Véroilles 2012 is a beautifully poised Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most admired names. Crafted from a challenging vintage that yielded very low quantities, it stands out for its finesse, precision, and layered complexity—an elegant expression of both site and producer.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color that hints at both concentration and vibrancy. The nose is immediately charming, with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, rose petals, forest floor, and a delicate thread of spice. On the palate, the wine is refined and beautifully balanced, with lively acidity, polished tannins, and a silken texture. The finish is long and graceful, carrying red fruit, subtle mineral nuances, and a quiet intensity that suggests excellent aging potential; while already expressive, it should continue to develop gracefully over the coming years.

Production
Les Véroilles is a Premier Cru site in Chambolle-Musigny, where Burgundian terroir often translates into wines of perfume, delicacy, and structure. The 2012 growing season was marked by frost, hail, and a damp summer, reducing yields but concentrating the fruit that remained. Barthod is known for meticulous vineyard work and restrained vinification, allowing the character of the vineyard and vintage to come through with clarity and elegance.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for dishes that complement Pinot Noir’s refinement, such as roast duck, quail, veal, mushroom risotto, or gently spiced poultry dishes. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended if opened young, though older bottles may be best enjoyed with minimal aeration.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is widely respected in Burgundy for producing some of the most precise and expressive wines in Chambolle-Musigny. The estate has earned a strong reputation for consistency, purity, and a deep respect for terroir, and Barthod is considered among the leading voices in the village. Her wines are highly sought after by collectors and Burgundy enthusiasts for their balance, age-worthiness, and unmistakable sense of place.
