Description

The 2013 Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru Magnum is a beautifully refined expression of one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most admired premier cru sites. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, it combines precision, elegance, and a strong sense of terroir, with the magnum format adding extra aging potential and poise. Les Cras has long been valued for its mineral-driven character, and in the hands of Domaine Ghislaine Barthod it becomes a wine of real depth and finesse.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a translucent ruby hue typical of fine Burgundy. The bouquet is fragrant and layered, offering ripe cherry, raspberry, violet, forest floor, and a subtle spice note, all lifted by a cool, mineral freshness. On the palate, it is graceful and lively, with bright acidity, silky tannins, and a delicate but persistent core of red fruit. The finish is long and refined, marked by limestone-inflected minerality and quiet spice. While already appealing for its freshness and detail, the magnum format and balanced structure suggest excellent aging potential over 10–15 years or more.

Production
Les Cras sits in the heart of Chambolle-Musigny, where limestone and clay soils contribute both tension and elegance to the wine. The 2013 vintage was shaped by a cool growing season, making careful vineyard work especially important, and the grapes were hand-harvested and sorted to preserve only the best fruit. Vinification followed a classic Burgundian approach with natural fermentation, then aging in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, to support rather than overshadow the site’s natural character.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that complement its finesse rather than overwhelm it, such as duck breast, roast quail, veal, mushroom risotto, or game birds. Serve at around 15–17°C for the best balance of aromatics and texture. Decanting is optional if opened young, but a gentle decant can help the wine खुल up and show its layered perfume more fully.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the respected family domaines in Chambolle-Musigny, known for producing terroir-driven wines with precision, structure, and elegance. The domaine has earned a strong reputation in Burgundy for its thoughtful vineyard work and restrained winemaking style, with wines that consistently reflect the subtleties of each parcel. Over time, it has become a benchmark producer for those seeking authentic, finely etched Chambolle-Musigny.
