Description
Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Chatelot 1er Cru 2009 is a beautifully poised Burgundy that captures the finesse and perfume Chambolle-Musigny is famous for. From one of the village’s prized Premier Cru sites, it combines precision, elegance, and depth in a way that makes this vintage especially compelling.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a polished ruby hue with the graceful transparency typical of great Pinot Noir. The bouquet is immediately seductive, offering ripe cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, layered with floral notes, subtle spice, and a distinctly mineral edge.
On the palate, the wine is silky and refined, with bright acidity framing the fruit and fine tannins giving shape without weight. The Les Chatelot terroir lends a chalky, mineral nuance and a long, lingering finish. The 2009 vintage has enough richness to drink well now, but it also has the structure to continue evolving gracefully over time.
Production
Les Chatelot is a well-situated Premier Cru vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny, where limestone- and clay-rich soils help produce wines with fragrance, minerality, and finesse. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit reaches the cellar.
Vinification follows traditional Burgundy methods, with natural fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak. The élevage is designed to add complexity and texture while preserving the purity of the Pinot Noir and the character of the terroir.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs especially well with duck breast, roast quail, pheasant, veal, or mushroom-based dishes such as risotto or a rich tart. It also works beautifully with soft, earthy cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently for 30–60 minutes if drinking now to help the aromatics open up.
