Description
Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Les Chatelot 1er Cru 2009 is a refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most admired communes, showing the poise and finesse that have made Chambolle-Musigny so sought after. From the Premier Cru Les Chatelots site, this Pinot Noir combines elegance, depth, and a strong sense of place in a vintage celebrated for its ripeness and balance.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright ruby color with graceful development in the bowl. The nose is seductive and layered, with ripe red cherry, raspberry, and strawberry notes lifted by floral nuances, gentle spice, and a clear mineral edge.
On the palate, the wine is silky and finely structured, with concentrated red fruit, polished tannins, and fresh acidity that keeps everything in balance. The Les Chatelots terroir lends a subtle limestone-driven tension and complexity, while the 2009 vintage adds generosity and depth. It has the structure to continue evolving beautifully over time, gaining more savory and earthy detail with age.
Production
Les Chatelots is a prized Premier Cru vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny, where limestone and clay soils help produce wines of aromatic lift, finesse, and mineral complexity. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the healthiest fruit is retained, allowing the vineyard character to come through clearly.
Vinification follows a traditional Burgundian approach, with natural fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak. This élevage adds subtle texture and complexity while preserving the delicacy and precision that define Ghislaine Barthod’s style.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted duck, squab, quail, veal, mushroom dishes, and truffle risotto, as well as simply prepared game birds and fine poultry. Serve it at around 15–17°C to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young or if you want to soften the wine’s structure and highlight its perfume.
