Description

Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru 2005 is a beautifully poised Burgundy from one of the commune’s most admired Premier Cru sites. Sourced from the limestone-rich slopes of Les Charmes and crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, it combines Chambolle-Musigny’s signature finesse with the depth and concentration of the excellent 2005 vintage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a graceful, luminous ruby colour that hints at its refinement and evolving complexity. The nose opens with ripe red cherry, raspberry and floral notes, layered with subtle spice and a discreet savoury, mineral edge. On the palate, it is silky and well-balanced, with vibrant acidity, fine tannins and a beautifully textured mid-palate. The fruit is expressive yet restrained, supported by the mineral tension and gentle oak influence that add length and detail. While it is already approachable, this wine still has the structure to age gracefully for another 10–20 years, developing more earthy, truffle-like complexity over time.

Production
Les Charmes is one of Chambolle-Musigny’s prized Premier Cru vineyards, known for its elegant expression of Pinot Noir and its limestone-dominant soils that help shape the wine’s precision and lift. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before undergoing traditional vinification with natural fermentation. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, to build depth, texture and complexity without masking the purity of the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted duck, pigeon, game birds, veal, or mushroom-based dishes such as porcini risotto or wild mushroom tart. Serve at around 15–17°C, and if the bottle is still youthful, decant for 30–60 minutes to allow the aromatics to fully open. Older bottles are best opened gently and served with minimal decanting to preserve their delicate nuances.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is a highly respected name in Chambolle-Musigny, prized for producing elegant, terroir-driven Pinot Noir with remarkable precision. Under Ghislaine Barthod’s stewardship, the domaine has earned an outstanding reputation among Burgundy lovers for its consistently refined and age-worthy wines.
