Description

Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru 2003 is a beautifully expressive Pinot Noir from one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most sought-after premier cru sites. It combines the finesse and perfume the village is famous for with the deeper concentration and warmth of the 2003 vintage, making it a compelling Burgundy with both charm and presence.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, mature ruby hue with signs of gentle evolution. The nose opens with dark cherry, blackberry, spice, and subtle earthy notes, followed by hints of leather, smoke, and a refined mineral edge. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, yet still carries the silky texture that defines great Chambolle-Musigny. The tannins are smooth, the acidity keeps the wine balanced, and the finish is long, layered, and persistent. While already drinking beautifully, it still has the structure to evolve further and gain additional complexity over time.

Production
The Les Charmes vineyard sits on limestone-rich soils in Chambolle-Musigny, a terroir known for producing Pinot Noir with elegance, precision, and aromatic lift. For this wine, the grapes were hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, then vinified traditionally with indigenous yeasts before aging in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, to add depth without overpowering the wine’s delicate character.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs wonderfully with roast duck, game birds, wild mushroom dishes, veal, or lamb with herbs. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if opening now, especially to let the wine fully раскрыde its aromatics and soften any youthful or mature nuances.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the most respected domaines in Chambolle-Musigny, recognized for producing Pinot Noir of remarkable purity, precision, and site expression. Over the years, the domaine has built a strong reputation for its meticulous vineyard work and restrained, terroir-driven style, making it a benchmark producer in Burgundy.
