Description

Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru ‘Les Baudes’ 2009 is a beautifully poised Burgundy that captures the elegance and precision Chambolle-Musigny is known for. Made from 100% Pinot Noir from a prized limestone site, it combines finesse, depth, and a distinctly mineral edge, making it a compelling example of a superb vintage and an exceptional terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a refined ruby hue with graceful brightness that hints at its freshness and energy. Aromatically, it opens with ripe red cherry, raspberry, and blackcurrant, layered with violet, spice, and a subtle earthy note. The palate is supple yet deeply expressive, with silky tannins, lively acidity, and a concentrated core of red fruit. There is real balance here: richness without excess, structure without hardness, and a long, elegant finish marked by mineral nuance. Drinking beautifully now, it still has the depth to evolve further over the next 8–12 years.

Production
Les Baudes is a limestone-driven Premier Cru site in Chambolle-Musigny, where the cooler, elegant style of the commune is enhanced by a fine mineral backbone. The grapes were hand-harvested to ensure optimal fruit quality, then vinified traditionally with natural fermentation before maturation in French oak barrels to build complexity and texture without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for classic Burgundy dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, herb-crusted lamb, veal, or mushroom risotto. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if opened in its youth or if you want to let the aromas fully unfold.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most respected estates, celebrated for producing finely detailed, terroir-driven Pinot Noir with exceptional purity and elegance. The domaine has built its reputation on meticulous vineyard work and a restrained, traditional winemaking approach, helping it stand among the benchmark producers of the village and the wider Côte de Nuits.
