Description
Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 1er Cru 2013 is a beautifully poised Burgundy that captures the finesse and precision of one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most admired premier cru sites. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, it combines delicate red-fruit character with subtle mineral depth and the hallmark elegance that has made this terroir so celebrated.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a refined ruby hue, hinting at both freshness and quiet concentration. The bouquet is expressive yet restrained, opening with red cherries and raspberries, then unfolding into violets, spice, and a gentle earthy note.
On the palate, the wine is complex and finely balanced, with silky tannins, lively acidity, and a long, graceful finish. The limestone and clay-driven minerality of Aux Beaux Bruns adds tension and lift, while the cool 2013 vintage gives the wine an especially elegant profile. It can be enjoyed now, but will continue to gain nuance and depth over the next 8–10 years.
Production
Sourced from the Aux Beaux Bruns premier cru vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny, the wine comes from a site known for its deep clay and limestone soils, which lend Pinot Noir both structure and finesse. The 2013 growing season was cool and demanding, requiring careful vineyard work to bring in healthy, well-balanced fruit with excellent concentration.
The grapes were hand-harvested and vinified traditionally with natural fermentation, then aged in French oak barrels to build complexity and texture without overshadowing the wine’s delicate fruit character.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for dishes that reflect Burgundy’s elegance, such as roast duck, pigeon, veal, or mushroom-based cuisine. It also works beautifully with soft, earthy cheeses and dishes featuring truffle or fine herbs. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the wine’s aromatic layers to open up.
